Saint Vitus' Cathedral, Prague. ca. 1950.

Sudek's photos document the exterior and interior of St. Vitus' Cathedral (10th c. dedication, rebuilt in 14th c. under Charles IV and completed in 1929; adjoins Hradčany Castle). The State Publisher of Literature, Music and Arts (Státni Nakladatelství Krasne Literatury, Hudby, a Umeni) planned a monograph on the cathedral in the early 1950s for which Sudek was commissioned as photographer. Communist cultural policy prevented publication because the book's subject was considered to be exclusively religious.

60 photoprints ; 23 x 17 cm. or smaller.
